Miles and Miles

Well, Jonah survived the 54 mile bikeride for one of his Scouting merit badges. It's pretty amazing to think that he and the other boys in the troop set this goal and accomplished it. Their leaders are really amazing people. They are the kind of people you PRAY will influence and challenge your kids. They are positive and kind, but still very cool people. (Don't ask me why that's important to me, but I guess what I'm saying is that they make you want to be a Scout. That's a pretty cool thing--to me.)

The boys had a lot of training and prep in order to go on this ride. They'd done 100 miles in previous weeks, 15 and 25 mile clips, preparing themselves for the longer ride.

The actual day was perfect weather. Maybe a little warm after peddling the first 10 miles, but no rain. Just a beautiful day.

Dave went along and supported J. He didn't ride, but drove ahead and met at the different stops (taking pictures, being there in case someone was injured etc.,). A lot of other leaders also did the ride. I'm dyin! These are some serious bike riders. I think one of the leaders has a bike that costs as much as my car.

After the bike ride, Jonah told Dave, "I'm putting all of my bikes on ebay and selling them."

Dave thought, "oh, you want a touring bike now?"

"NO," Jonah said, "I never want to ride a bike again."

Sure, Jonah.

15 minutes after he got home, he asked to ride his bike to the movies.

And he did.

Great job, J. What an awesome thing you did.
