Menudo?

WARNING: Kaya just alerted me: the song on my playlist says dam* at the start. Despite typically censoring most swearwords from the blog, this song is vital to my blog entry. Lo siento! (Where's the upside down exclam point when you need it?)

During the summer of my 8th grade year, when other girls were screaming for New Kids on the Block, I remember secretly screaming for Menudo (Why this was a secret? I was 13 and the queenbee liked New Kids on the Block. Duh!).

Oh, I loved Menudo. So much so, that I think I watched Telemundo more than Nickelodeon that summer--looking for the group performing on any talkshow, variety show, etc. (They were like a Latin version of the Jackson 5 or the Osmonds to me. They had neon jumpsuits that matched. Ricky Martin. Headbands. It was awesome. BTW: They were Puerto Ricanos.)

So, imagine my surprise yesterday when I am listening to XM Top 20, and they introduce the next song as "Menudo's latest."

I'm thinking, I don't remember a single person's name, but I must see what they look like now! Are they on tour? I'm so going. I feel like drinking Tang (Angie) and getting out my Madonna black rubber bracelets. I'm so excited. New Kids on the Block reunited this summer, now, Menudo! I am in 8th grade all over again.

So, I immediately run to the laptop and Google them (listening to the song as I search).

Guess what? Latin groups don't age. Apparently they have found the Fountain of Youth. Check them out:

No, they haven't found the Fountain of Youth. They are the "new" Menudo. Apparently in "Latin Boy Band land" once you hit 20, you are out. The group name never changes, but the members do. (BTW: They go by MDO now.)

I'm dyin'. And, I'm feeling old. Why?

1. Because I hate that my Menudo members are out there somewhere, working normal 9-5 jobs.

2. Because I really like the new song--and that makes me a 30 something mother of 4 who likes a boy band where the average age is 15!

In other news:

We went to the Daybreak Community pool yesterday. It was the "Parade of Homes" launch last night, and Daybreak has a few homes on the tour. Wow--have they done a lot to prepare for that tour! They laid about a gazillion square feet of sod over the weekend for a park/soccer field AND completed the tennis courts. It's SO nice.

Why can't my earthquake-loving California family members move here? Stop being shellfish! (Yes, shellfish.) Homes are like 1/2 the price here--and twice the square footage.

How can earthquakes, smog, and traffic really hold a candle to that? LOL! (Okay, earthquakes, smog, traffic and a job. LOL!)

PS: Amy, thanks for the camera loan. I've been taping myself for 6 hours now. LOL!
