A few weeks ago our church group had an evening where they had people share "great ideas" they'd learned/created over the years.
The ideas spanned oodles of topics and I just thought it was so cool! To me, there's nothing cooler than a new idea.
So with that in mind, I thought I would share a few of my great ideas here on the blog each day this week.
Some of them I actually came up with on my own (I know, shocker), but most of them were shared with me. Either way, I think they are all great!
Some Great Ideas, Part 1
1. Using a watercan/pitcher in the bathtub for the kiddos.
Love the watering can/pitcher. Our kids make "waterfalls" with it (vs. plastic cups) and I use it to rinse the shampoo out of their hair. (It's way more fun. And I'm all about the fun.)
2. Friday Night Pizza and a Movie Night.
We began this after Dave's brother and sister told us about their Friday Fun Night. It's basically a "date night" for the whole family, but at home (and the kids can invite friends, etc.). My sister-in-law (I think) serves "sides" as her theme--like finger foods--which I think is so fun (chicken wings, dips, etc.). We made ours Take and Bake Pizza Friday Fun Night because I LOVE Papa Murphy's Pizza (and the owners), but really the best part of it is the routine of it--having something fun to look forward to each week. (Oh--and having a night off from cooking/dishes.)
3. Color-coding the Books on Your Bookshelf.
If you like books, it's my favorite way to display them. Forget Dewey Decimal. That's so 1980s. (PS: I want this library. It rocks.)
4. Dishsoap in a pretty dispenser.
Okay, it's Martha Stewart, I know. BUT, I still love it.
5. Donating to Compassion International.
I'm not being pushy, I'm just saying, if you were raised by Jo and Gary you'd sponsor a child too. (Seriously, my mom and dad had a photo of a boy on our fridge that they sponsored in Africa for most of my childhood. When I go home, I still expect to see it there--it's such a strong memory.)
So, my point! A lot of things in the world get me down. I hate the injustice and inequality of life. I hate that my list of "Great Things" includes things like soap dispensers and movie nights, yet there are people who don't have these luxuries. Or any luxury for that matter.
And so we JUST did this--this month--decided to sponsor a child. It seemed like doing some good was better than sitting on my bahookie and complaining about the randomness of life.
And Compassion International seems to be a reputable organization. (I've done as much research as I can on it.)
PS: The child we are sponsoring is in Nicaragua and we're getting a photo of him in the next two weeks. I know someone who translates letters for Compassion Int'l and it looks like we can send letters to the child in addition to the small donation each month. How cool is that? (And, who thinks of this stuff? Do you know how many ideas I have that I pass on because it seems like too much work? People are amazing to run these organizations.)
Stay-tuned: more Good Things all this week!
