Is it Almost Labor Day? Really?

My cousin sent me an email this morning and asked what I was doing for Labor Day. Honestly, I keep thinking Labor Day is coming up, but I hadn't realized it was THIS weekend until now. I think with Jonah gone, time has kind of stood still for us all. I'm sure he'll come home and I'll be thinking it's August 16th still--the day he left.

At any rate, he comes home soon, so we will be back to normal here in a week or so. (He's having a great time, BTW.)

In the meantime, the girls and I (and Dave--after work!) are enjoying the extra time together. We have been doing school, swimming, baking, sailing (Camry), got haircuts, and even went to our neighbor's play last night. (Heather, we love you!)

The play was one I'd watched as a movie, but never on stage--it was "Big"--the Tom Hanks 80's movie?

It was HILARIOUS to see the 1980s through 2008 eyes. Everything looked silly. The big hair, the peg-legged pants, the phones, bikes, cultural "things," the stretchy pants, acid-washed jeans, etc. I'm thinking that wasn't my favorite fashion era (even then!).

Of course Heather was hilarious. She does the 80s like nobody's business. She's so in character--Paigey honestly laughed out loud a couple of time (how cute is that?).

It was great.

Sidenote: Camry and Kaya also loved the play, but I have to admit, they were starving for most of it. Ever gone through a drive-thru in a rush, only to look in the bag and see that your order isn't your order? By the time we realized our order wasn't our order, we were too close to "showtime," and couldn't go back. We were left with 2 fries and a burger--and the girls don't eat bovine (LOL!)! Ugh. Fortunately, there was a snack bar, so they dined on Red Vines and Mentos. (I say this not because they were complaining, but just to keep a record of the silly things that happen day-to-day. . . "Remember when mom would give us Red Vines and Mentos for dinner?")

Oh, and one really cool thing about the play: the stage has a center that raises and lowers (like 2 stories or something). And one of the sets was incredible! It popped up like a pop-up book! The apartment scene--the set is the main character's kid-like NY apartment. Well, in addition to a lot of toys and a BB hoop, there was a trampoline! It blended with the floor, so you didn't realize it until the Tom Hanks character gets on it and starts doing flips! Crazy. Big huge flips (back flips, the whole thing). I was dyin'!

Okay, so we've had some fun while Jonah's been gone. But, we do miss him. Love you, J!

PS: The photos--history for Cam and Kaya this week (we're doing a China unit). They were practicing calligraphy (which means, beautiful writing--did ya know?). The other cool thing we learned, there are over 40,000 Chinese characters. Holy cow!
