My dad made me laugh so hard yesterday. He said, "looking at your wedding pictures, doesn't that/it seem like a lifetime ago?"
He's couldn't be more right. I barely recognize the Dave and Dawn of 1991. We have changed and grown in so many ways (hopefully all for the better!).
In 17 years, we've moved 9 times. We've lived in 2 states. We've become parents (4 times!). We've completed 4 college degrees. Dave's traveled for work/school to amazing places (Vietnam, China, Japan . . . ). I traveled all over the US for my work at BYU. And, our extended families have grown, traveled, and moved, too.
Truth be told, the past 17 years have brought us a lot of highs--and certainly our shares of lows (be sure to ask Dave about the time he rode Jonah's Magna kid-bike 22 miles to work).
But as I look back on our marriage, I feel so grateful. I really do love Dave more today than yesterday (name the song):
* He's funny. (And I KNOW funny.)
* He's really smart (Like way smarter than a 5th grader).
* He's an incredible father. (He's the kind of father every child deserves.)
* He's completely selfless. (Completely.)
* He's always reading and learning. (His dream date: sit on the floor at Barnes and Noble and read books.)
* He shares his time and talents with others willingly. (Fence building = sure! Paint a room = sure! Give you half my meal = sure! Let you have 200 pets = sure!)
* He only sees the good in people and the world. (No fault finding. Only genuine acceptance.)
* He's not bogged down with worry or fear. (He can even watch scary movies.)
* He's not frustrated or disappointed with what might have been--or isn't. (Lives in the NOW.)
* He's given me more in life than I feel like I deserve. (Truly.)
