I thought about that a few times this week. I think that student's statement reflects a lot of people's attitudes toward the internet: it's a waste of time, it's disconnected from "people," etc.
But I don't really see the internet that way. I think it really depends on how/what you use the internet for. And, in the case of my student's comment, I think we could very easily spend "a day in the life" with any person on the planet and find activities they do that we think are "a waste of time." So, I'm not sure being online necessarily makes you lazy, inefficient or selfish per-se.
Maybe I'm just justifying my own use of the internet, specifically, my writing on this blog everyday (or almost everyday)?
But, I really do like having a few minutes each morning to myself (before everyone is up) to write some thoughts for the day. This blog has been a great thing for me: it helps me to direct my thoughts each day, and because a record is kept, it helps me to see where I've been.
And, that reflection has been such a good thing for me. It's made me more grateful. You know, hindsight really is 20/20. So, if I'm having a down day and feeling no hope in sight, I'll open the blog to a time when I felt that same way. Then, I'll read the posts and look at the pictures and realize--hay, made it through that okay, you'll probably make it through this, too.
Which leads me to the most common phrase at our house this week . . .
"Where's my camera?"
Because I write and post so often, I keep my camera with me all of the time. (I would imagine at some point we'll just be streaming our lives straight to the internet--unfiltered. LOL.)
In fact, I think the whole family has adopted this "if it's not on the blog, it didn't happen" attitude. So we are all always looking for the camera. That camera is never in its case. Never.
This week, Camry was the camera hound. If you needed the camera, you had to check Camry's room. Apparently she needed to direct her own Bratz movie--and also photograph the tooth she just lost (because you know how attached we are to our teeth! She's killin' me. The Camster.).
Here's where the camera's been this week (it's its own travel bug, basically).

Strawberries that a farmer grew...
